As Christians, God calls us to service.  Serving the people of God is a way of growing closer to God.  When we serve God’s people, we give worship and honor to God and encounter the living God.  Below are some  of the many ways you can encounter God within the Church parish.  For more information and/or to volunteer, please call the Church Parish office at 337-893-5631.

 

ADORATION CHAPEL (Little Flower) - “Were you not able to watch with me for one hour” Matthew 26:40.  The Adoration Chapel is available for all to come and visit.  Adoration is homage of the spirit to the "King of Glory", respectful silence in the presence of the "ever greater" God.  The Little Flower Chapel is a pepetual adoration chapel where the Eucharist is exposed for adoration 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except for a few closures.  All are invited to sign up for one hour a week to sit with the Lord.  Coordinators are Becky Moss (337-280-3435) and Maxine Scalisi (337-523-9887).  

ALTAR SERVER – Being an Altar Server is a liturgical function, therefore one must be a baptized and Eucharistic Catholic.  An Altar Server provides support tasks as part of the Mass; carry the cross, candle bearer, tend to burning incense,  carry the cross, hold the book of the prayers (the Roman Missal), ringing the altar bells, help prepare the altar for the Liturgy of the Eucharist, and other tasks to serve the priest and laypeople.  Coordinators:  Children - Dodi Fontenot (337-257-2941) and Adults - Doug Romero (337- 772-8442).

ANNULMENTS – This is a declaration by the Catholic Church that after careful investigation, flaws were discovered concerning the personal and/or spiritual aspects of a couple’s relationship in events leading up to the wedding ceremony causing the marriage, thought to be valid according to Church law, to actually fall short of at least one of the essential elements required for a binding sacred union.  Parish Sponsor:  Paul Trahan (337-600-9099).

CATECHIST – The goal of the Catechist is to share their own faith journey with young people so as their faith development continues to grow.  In turn, the catechist and students grow in their own relationship with Christ.

CHILDREN OF MARY - Every first Saturday of each month a rosary is said in Church to encourage family involvement.  This was developed in response to Our Lady of Fatima's request to pray the rosary.  Coordinator:  Michelle Abshire (337-517-6775).

COME LORD JESUS – This program is a complete study of the Sunday readings including the Gospels, New and Old Testament readings.  As a faith formation program that creates an atmosphere of prayer and helps to develop understanding of Sacred Scripture and its power in today’s world especially through the Church.  Groups within St. Theresa Parish:  Wednesday, 7:00pm, Church Library (Spanish) - Leader/ Cristina LeBlanc (337-261-5543); Tuesday, 1:30 pm - Leader/Laura Lee Domingue (337-652-4698); Wednesday, 9:00 am - Leader/ Lynn Bares (337-937-5942); Wednesday, 9:30 am - Leader/ Becky Moss (337-280-3435); Sunday, 6:30 pm - Leader/Carolyn Trahan (337-254-947).  Additional groups are available in the surrounding area.  For contact information, call Come Lord Jesus Office at 337-233-6277 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. DECORATIONS – Interior decorators, plant lovers/gardeners, floral arrangers, etc that can help prepare the sacred space in our church for the various liturgical seasons (Easter and Christmas) and other special liturgies.

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION – Assist with distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass and special liturgical celebrations.  Coordinator:  Laurie Lee Domingue (337-652-4698).

HISPANIC MINISTRIES - St. Theresa Church Parish has a large Hispanic population.  Priest:  Fr. Francois Sainte-Marie (337-261-5542).

HOMEBOUND MINISTERS – Bring Communion to the homebound, those recovering from surgery/ illness in hospital, and nursing home residents.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS and PETER CLAVER – The Orders of  Knights of Columbus and Knights of Peter Claver are true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity.  Both Orders are made up of Catholic men of faith and of charitable action volunteering in a variety of local, national and international projects.  Contact:  Odale Darby (337-893-7965).  Knights of Columbus Virgen de Guadalupe, Contact: Albert Malmberg (337-967-1627).

LADIES ALTAR SOCIETY – In a group friendship, supporting a love for the house of God by cleaning the church and linens, and caring for the immediate needs of the Altar for celebration of the Eucharist.  Contact: Faye Broussard (337-893-8637).

LEGION OF MARY  - This organization is a lay apostolic association of Catholics.  Their passion is to bring glory to God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation in Mary's and the Church's work.  Weekly meeting are held on Wednesday's at 6:15 pm in the Pastorial Center office.  Contact:  Shelly Picard (337-281-1267).  For more information:  https://www.legionofmary.ie/.

MUSIC MINISTRY – The Music Minister leads and enriches Mass, through music, at a weekend mass and other special celebrations.

OFFICE VOLUNTEERS – Occasionally assistance is needed with phones, stuffing bulletins, and simple office duties.

PASTORAL COUNCIL – The Pastoral Council is composed of members of the congregation together with those of the parish staff who are involved in the day-to-day ministry of the parish.  The Pastoral Council is a consultative body, pastoral in nature, because it strives to discern the movement of the Holy Spirit among God’s people in the parish and assists in promoting pastoral action in the parish.  Ordinarily, the composition of the Council is a mixture of laypersons nominated and elected by the parish at large and some appointed by the pastor.  

PRAYING THE ROSARY - Come and join in praying for the needs of the Church parish with this group of community members, every Monday in the Church Library at 5:45.  Parish Coordinator:  Jenni Boudreaux (893-5962).

PRO-LIFE - The mission is to respect, protect, and serve life from conception to natural death through public education, pastoral care, state and national legislation, prayer, and worship.  Parish Coordinator:  Faye Broussard (337-652-8638).

RCIA – (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a program for people interested in becoming Catholic. Through a period of preparation, the interested candidate is accompanied by faithful men and women that share their faith while the candidate is on the spiritual journey.  As a volunteer to accompany a candidate, one must be a practicing Catholic, and can attend the weekly meetings.  Coordinator:  Paul Trahan (337-600-9099).

READER/LECTOR – “Proclaims the sacred Word of God” during Mass and special liturgies by reading the scripture.  They also share announcements and intentions pre-prepared by the Church staff.

SACRISTAN – A Sacristan is responsible for setting up for both Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist which means caring and preparing the books, vessels, linens, and incense when needed.  Once the mass has ended, the Sacristan cleans and stores materials that were used.  The Sacristan is responsible for assuring proper treatment of the Sacred Body and Blood during and after Mass.  The Sacristan also assists the priest with whatever details/duties he needs, including verifying that all altar servers, readers, and Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers are ready for the Mass.  Coordinator:  Dean Broussard (337-893-2062).

ULTREYA (Women) – For those Cursillistas looking to join a small friendship group that is persevering in the Fourth Day through group prayer, reading the Word of God, spiritual direction, sharing, inspiring and encouraging one another.  Meetings are every second Tuesday of the month in the Church Parish Library at 5:00 pm.  Contact: Laurie Lee Domingue (337-937-6804).

SACRAMENTS:  

BAPTISM  -  FIRST COMMUNION  -  CONFIRMATION  -  MATRIMONY
Instruction is required to prepare for participate in each sacrament.  Instruction is available for both children and adults. 

USHERS – The role of the Usher is to greet and welcome, assist in seating, collect the offerings, pass out bulletins and prepare the worship space for the next Mass.  Coordinator:  Clarence Taylor (337-893-8837).

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – Using stories, music, crafts, skits and classroom experiences, Bible stories come alive for children.  Volunteers needed in different capacities.  Held during summer months for one week.

YOUTH MINISTRY – Youth ministry is meant to (1) empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today, (2) draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the Catholic faith community, and (3) foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.  There are a variety of ways to share in this ministry to the youth.
